@10g1k In the USA we have a similar culture with muscle cars. The power was often not present from the factory and had to be engineered for the application. Concepts such as the supercharger and a variant of the supercharger, the turbocharger, were taken from aviation breakthroughs.

In short, these seemingly detestable automobiles were the proving grounds of new technology.
