@mostaurelius @bookstodon Back in 69 Mr. Rogers and François Clemmons influenced many young minds by having a foot soak in a small pool. This was when pools were segregated.

I remember that episode. Mr. Rogers was my other dad. 🥹 I have my grandchildren watch old episodes.

@mostaurelius @FearlessJuan @CeeDub70 I thought the Reading Rainbow guy was muscular to fight off the bullies he attracted.

@CeeDub70 @mostaurelius @bookstodon @AmpBenzScientist I didn't grow up with him but I heard about him once I was in the US. I can imagine that episode's significance and impact.

I also remember hearing abt a little blind girl that wrote to him because she was concerned he'd forget to feed his fish.

Since then he'd say aloud "and know I'm going to feed the fish" or something to that effect for that little girl's peace of mind.

That story sounds vaguely familiar and so like him. 🥹
He was the most thoughtful man and really valued and respected children’s feelings, thought processes, and gave them self-soothing tools to get through whatever their reality may be. I look back now, and it seemed like a form of therapy mixed with education.

Found this:

"A 5 year-old girl who was blind would listen to TV because she couldn’t see it and Mr. Rogers mentioned he was feeding the fish but then he never mentioned those fish again and the little girl became worried. She sent a letter to Mr. Rogers explaining her thoughts about this. From then on, Mr. Rogers tried to talk about feeding the fish so the little blind girl could know he was taking care of them"
