By adding an SSD and maximizing the RAM, along with using a free operating system such as Linux or FreeBSD, your laptop can easily be extended another five years of life.

Sigh, not if it is an EEE Pc. Even with an SSD is now too much slow for videos/streaming/browsing and many uses. I think that about 10 years is the minimum limit for a decent reuse.
