what's very funny about making music on Linux is that one of the most popular DAW plugin suites out there is Calf, and i personally wrote the algorithm for the Calf Compressor.

and i think i might've done parts of it differently today, but you can't change how plugins work, because it'll break people's old projects. if you want to improve anything, you have to make a new plugin.
