I have a new policy with people I know IRL. The amount of online chat should be proportional to how much meatspace time I spend with that person. Long conversations shouldn't happen online. I have had a habit of doing that but it does bad things to relationships. Several have been ruined over it, despite getting along with the person when I meet them.

I think it was easier to use chat to stay in touch with people when my relationships were basic, which they often are when you're young. Older people usually have more complex personalities so it requires better communication.

@thor That seems reasonable. I'm a very different person when I'm undergoing meattime. In person I'm likeable, on my friend's Discord I get banned because it's Discord and a cancer to society.

Perhaps I'm accustomed to the Internet culture that was brutally honest and not an echo chamber for people to segregate themselves based on some idiotic ideals. People need to hear opposing opinions like NASA needed to listen to Engineers about O-rings in the fuel delivery system.
