I wonder how many physics threads I can run at full load on steamdeck… that’s going to be a pain finding out the balance now it’s going toward a product stage from R&D.

@thendrix Can you use the GPGPU features or the CPU for a little lift in performance?

I’m more concerned about battery life and thermals for the platform – well ahead in framerate and simulation. I just don’t want to hit thermal throttle. I’m doing ~25ms with ‘ultra’ settings, which better than a solid 30 FPS.

STAP is thermal throttling to avoid burning people’s hands for handhelds, and here’s a review of a desktop that had it enabled to see the performance drops you can get:

I don’t plan to target 60Hz / 16.6ms frames on the Steamdeck. It’s basically like a PC with RDNA 2 about as powerful as a GTX 1050/1080, but with shared memory.
