I bet you’ve heard of Galileo & Hubble, but what about Henrietta Swan Leavitt?
Leavitt changed astronomy. She figured out new ways to measure a star’s distance from Earth & her work helped determine the universe is expanding.
Her boss, Edward Pickering, published her findings UNDER HIS NAME. Later, Shapley used her findings to determine distances around the Milky Way w/o credit.
Leavitt’s work is still used today. So next time you hear about famous men in #science share her remarkable story.

@rbreich It's the "Some Lives Matter" movement, essentially.
Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.
We call on the European Council to take the necessary decisions to allow Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia to become full Schengen members.
Their citizens must enjoy the full benefits of Schengen without further delay.

We have decided to create an account at Mastodon. We need time to learn how this platform works but also how to synchronize our work here with the Twitter account.
Thank you all for joining us here. No matter where we are, the mission stays the same. We are in social media to commemorate the victims of Auschwitz and educate the world about the tragic story of the camp.
The one thing i noticed thats missing, esp. if you are a previous user from the budgie themed site, is there is a lack of really good #conspiracytheory here. So.
#glasgow botanical gardens is a cover up for the 19th century crash of a time traveling #federation starship. Specifically, a constitution class starship. The evidence is there if you just open your eyes.
everybody should have 1 harmless conspiracy theory they believe in. this is mine.

“I alone can fix it” didn’t work in the White House, and it didn’t work at #Twitter.
Interesting fact of the day: The first archaeological evidence of instruments, a flute, was **not** made by humans, in fact, it was made by a neanderthal and is 60,000 years old.
Yeah, you're not missing anything. It was pretty terrible. One of those things that seems interesting until you actually try to use it.
It seemed to be populated by either leets or criminals of some sort (and I guess those circles would overlap somewhat). And the people just saying "Is this working?" over and over. 😉
I've been working in the de-centralized social media space for 5 year now!
Thought I'd pause and reflect on what's happened from my perspective:
1. My basic reason for getting started was the death of organic social media
2. At the outset we looked into several possibilities: blockchain, NFC, self-hosting, mesh networks, etc.
3. Initially I wanted to build P2P networks, not client/server federated networks
4. Self-sovereign identity was top-of-mind
