This is exactly the kind of book that my middle schooler loves. I notice that it's called "adult dystopian science-fiction" but would it be appropriate(content, not reading level) for middle school?

Thank you for the response! I'm going to give it a read myself first, in that case :)

@BE haha that was my next thought - thank you and I hope you enjoy!

So I wanted to reply to you on this with an update. I read the first book and decided to give it to my son. He's just finished it and *loves* it. He reports that it's "WAY more appropriate than Hunger Games" which he was assigned by a teacher a year or two ago. He's excited to dig into book 2!

@BE ahh thank you so much!! That means a lot to me. And honestly, yes, I agree that it’s way more appropriate. And it stays that way.
Thank you. I hope you enjoyed it as well and this made my night, thank you for the update.

I did! One of the joys of being a kid is he finds a lot more time to read than I do, so he'll definitely get to book 2 before I do :)

@BE hahahaha well if so, just don’t let him tell you the spoilers 😂 there’s a lot of them.

@BE here’s an excerpt if you want to check it out: https://szattwell.com/aestus1excerpt/
I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for 13 and under.

@BE hmm. Thanks for asking! I would honestly not recommend it to anyone below high school. It has some intense scenes and dark themes. Nothing sexual but definitely adult in other ways. I’d say somewhere between PG-13 and R if it were a movie.
