This is exactly the kind of book that my middle schooler loves. I notice that it's called "adult dystopian science-fiction" but would it be appropriate(content, not reading level) for middle school?

@BE hmm. Thanks for asking! I would honestly not recommend it to anyone below high school. It has some intense scenes and dark themes. Nothing sexual but definitely adult in other ways. I’d say somewhere between PG-13 and R if it were a movie.

So I wanted to reply to you on this with an update. I read the first book and decided to give it to my son. He's just finished it and *loves* it. He reports that it's "WAY more appropriate than Hunger Games" which he was assigned by a teacher a year or two ago. He's excited to dig into book 2!

I did! One of the joys of being a kid is he finds a lot more time to read than I do, so he'll definitely get to book 2 before I do :)
