If you download your Twitter archive it arrives wrapped as a static HTML page, which is not very useful for doing anything with, and worse: it requires the original account to be still active to do useful things like enlarge the images since they use t.co links.

So here's a Python script to convert a Twitter archive to markdown or other formats: github.com/timhutton/twitter-a

Now you can archive your tweets in any way you want.

Just a reminder to all the new arrivals here:

These instances are NOT commercial entities like #Twitter ... someone is paying the bills for servers and networking, and the massive influx of people like us are raising those costs enormously.

Be a good citizen, checkout the "About this server" link, and if you can, make a donation towards costs.

The key thing here is that it takes time to build your social graph. It's a completely organic process.

Which serves as a really nice detox period for your nervous system as you move away from the engineered compulsion of corporate social media.

Try and enjoy it. :)

Black Panther is more than a cultural phenomenon. The advanced world of fulfills the collective dream of Black dominance in fields typically non-inclusive of diverse leadership.

The Smithsonian's inclusion of the Black Panther costume will be a constant reminder of this aspiration.

Almost 180k new users joined #mastodon yesterday, a new record. This third #twitterMigration wave happened after Musk's Twitter 2.0 ultimatum to #Twitter workers. Each wave is stronger than the previous one. Here is my updated plot showing the three consecutive waves.

24,932 accounts
+89 in the last day
+1,026 in the last week

People from the Other Place.

This tool will find the Mast accounts of your Other Place followers/followees. The other one I've seen only finds people who cross post, this finds them ALL

A lot of us moved our blogging to places like Twitter, because it was convenient and easier to be seen.

If this meltdown leads people to going back to their blogs, or at least learning the essential downside of centralization, that will be a positive outcome.

Good evening, Twitter was a 16 year sociological study conducted by Harvard University. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time.

enough grieving for twitter. lets be real, its not twitter i miss, its the 16,000 friends i made

theres more than that over here. *rolls up sleeves* its time to make friends again

One thing that's getting a little lost in this mix, is that some of the people desperately holding on at Twitter are because they are trapped by either healthcare or visas.

That there are systemic traps that trap worker in America so they feel unable to move freely to new employers who want them and would have better pay or conditions is *nuts* and deserves a lot more attention than it gets.

The twitter outages graph looks remarkably similar to the mastodon new user graph.... just saying ;)

Apocalypses, Birdsite

Twitter right now feels like one of those apocalyptic TV shows where they speculate what would happen if human vanished. Like, how long would power plants keep operating? How long before feral dogs formed packs in the street? On what day would the first skyscraper collapse?
