@historyofpunkrock I could not quit listening to this album. My favorite Cramps album. It’s been at least 20 years since I’ve played it. Tonight I think I’ll saddle up a buzz buzz.

One of the worst jobs in the world must be being a lawyer for Donald Trump, as the latest news makes clear. No less than three of them have appeared before Jack Smith’s grand jury lately, and now Smith intends to prove at least one was part of the crime. statuskuo.substack.com/p/maga-

Trump (sigh)

It would be fitting to charge him with wire fraud. Grifting is his thing and has been his whole life. Here, the amounts are in the hundreds of millions.

“Another key benefit of wire fraud is its simplicity. The charge boils down to proof that the defendants hatched a scheme to rip somebody off and one of them sent an email. Lying and stealing are criminal law 101.”

Maybe Kubrick just wanted to adapt one the greatest novels of the 20th century to boost his young career.

Still, I think the film could be better.

Everyone in the world: Maybe we can harness the power of A.I. for better interpretative analysis of XRays for the detection and management of cancer and another life-threatening disease.

Meta/Facebook: Oh, cool, we can make better Instagram filters!

One of the earliest films I remember that Raquel Welch was in was 100 RIFLES. The film, like all of the films in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and before, was hideously misogynistic. Here was one of the posters featuring Welch and Jim Brown. #RIPRaquelWelch #film #RaquelWelch #cinemastodon #movies

Cook County, Minnesota has issued a travel advisory for all gravel roads in the county. The snow cover combined with the rain has made many treacherous.

There are so few Minnesotans using the Minnesota hashtag and fewer that live in Cook County that I'm not sure it's worth posting this, but I'll do it anyway in case there's a chance.

@trendless @ifixcoinops Or why the IT industry is depressing to work in.

A lot of jobs aren't socially constructive. Far too many are actively socially destructive.

I can state without any hesitation that my personal projects and contributions, however few they might be, have done more good to society and the world than any job I've ever held.

Which makes the whole "work to contribute to society" spiel ring very hollow, mind you.

Did you catch the ads for Jesus during the Super Bowl? It’s bizarre that anyone would spend $20 million to promote and rebrand Jesus this way, but what lies beneath the sleek marketing is something very disturbing. I explain in today’s piece. statuskuo.substack.com/p/jesus

A recent ProPublica investigation focused on Chris McNaughton, the #PennState student who had to sue his #insurance provider #UnitedHealthcare to get his #UlcerativeColitis treatment covered.

Now hear Chris’ story in his own words, and recordings of UHC execs discussing their decision to deny coverage.

After his diagnosis, Chris unsuccessfully tried a wide variety of treatments until his specialist at the Mayo Clinic landed upon a high-dose combination of drugs that finally worked:

"Therefore their AI is doomed to be stupid."

Brilliant commentary.

My latest eBook is out. It's called Favorite Photos from 2022. It includes a favorite photo from each month of 2022 and a story about them. It also includes runner-up images.

It was a surprising amount of work to make.

As a geneticist, I was having a conversation with a friend in the supermarket yesterday. How they only buy natural foods. I laughed because they had 3 pink grapefruits in their basket. I told them that the only reason that grapefruit is pink is because of mutagenesis. As a child most grapefruit were almost clear. However exposing the seed to high levels of nuclear radiation scrambled its DNA. At some point one of those seeds produced a sweet pink grapefruit.

They were horrified 😆😁😄😃😀

Someone asked ChapGPt to come up with 10 Commandments for the modern world. I could be guided by these principles. Perhaps a new religion is in order?
