A neat side-effect of the "Mentioned people only" visibility level on #mastodon is that one can forward a post to someone else, "privately".

One just needs to reply to the post (any public/unlisted post), remove the @ of the author, add someone else's handle, and set the visibility to "Mentioned people only". And tada, by viewing the thread, the mentioned person can see the post.

@karl oh no :( I don't expect anything to be truly private but that's pretty concerning

@Britt Agreed - deeply concerning that this applies to UNLISTED posts too. Like I'm not bothered that it can be done with FULLY public posts - but it shouldn't be able to be applied to anything with a 'limited' viewership.

@tinysapien @Britt Nothing is private. Even if the platform did not allow it, people take screenshots all the time from conversations and forward to others. Just assume nothing is private unless you keep it only to yourself.

@ndre @Britt "NOTHING IS PRIVATE SO YOU SHOULD TOTALLY BE OKAY WITH ANYONE DOING ANYTHING AND BEING ALLOWED TO DO ANYTHING AT ANY TIME" says some dude who I def didn't ask and can see himself out the door.

@ndre The post from three days ago? That you decided to 'little lady' explain to me? Okay.

@tinysapien Sorry again... new here and I did not even see the timestamp... I was replying to the thread. I was not "mansplaining" to you. there were a few other posts there that triggered my reply. Sorry I replied to you.

@ndre The irony that you are not explaining my own use of words to me, which were purposeful, is definitely not lost on me - but apparently is lost on you.
