The implosion was deemed to have occurred on or near the time they lost communication with the vessel, so there was no deployment of search/rescue audio detection deployed at that instant. The assessment was made by the USCG which prompted SeaGate to issue the statement to that effect when it did.

It definitely happens, particularly where there’s negligence. This case probably cost millions of dollars.
@bot @ClaraListensprechen4 considering how many billionaires were on board it wouldn't surprise me if governments did try to collect some money. i just think it's kind of legally complicated since they probably didn't have any pre-arranged fee as a condition for rescue operations, and 2 they're in international waters, so where would you even go to court to try to collect such a payment?

It’s not legally complicated, legislation allowing it exists in some jurisdictions. They’d file against their estates hypothetically but probably won’t.
