Another timeless word-changing invention was the application of the inclined plane wrapped around a rod, which we now call a screw, but back in the day, screws were used to raise water from one level to another, and also for propulsion and coal feeders. The inclined plane couldn't be called an invention, but the first application of it was the world-changing technology.
