Here are just a few of the things that happened on January 2, 2023:
137 million tonnes (CO2 equivalent) of greenhouse gases were emitted worldwide.
Three people were killed by police in the US.
A football player suffered cardiac arrest during a game.
Which of these received the most press coverage? Which is the most important for today and the future?
Theists, heirs to a system of belief that has afflicted humanity with endless bloodshed and repression, have the nerve to ask atheists, smugly, how, without the Bible, they can have any kind of morality. #atheism
It's striking that there are a lot of old people who watched small changes happening around them during their lifetimes, resulting in a world where they feel like strangers, who reject the idea that even smaller changes, accumulating over far vaster periods of time, can result in the creation of new species and the disappearance of old ones. #evolution
If anyone needs it, you have my permission to tell people this holiday season, "I've looked at hospitalization rates for respiratory illness and the weather forecast, and we're staying home. I will see you when it doesn't mean putting anyone's lives at risk, because I love you."
You have my permission and urging to do this any time, but I know you're hearing other messages right now.

I am disgusted with Microsoft. At every ethical juncture--and there were many--Microsoft and Mecklenburg County made the unethical decision--the racist decision. The "put the corporation interest above the poor" decision. This just came out yesterday and I think it needs to be shared widely. Is Microsoft incapable of doing the right thing?

U.S. Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) answered “hell no” when asked if he would support legislation to avoid a government default that didn’t cut Social Security and Medicare — programs he called “garbage.”

In 1941, Nazis asked the city of Amsterdam to make this map of Jews in the city. Each dot equalled 10 Jews.
In 2022, TX AG @KenPaxtonTX sought data from driver's licenses on #transgender Texans.
But don't worry. History never repeats itself. #LGBTQ+

When you're a #POC #migrant cooking laksa for a large community event and a white council health inspector on a power trip decides to take apart your recipe and question you about *every single* minute step of your process because he is 'concerned about the preparation'... 🙄
(Was asked to elaborate on how I intend to blanch beansprouts, among other ridiculous things 🤪)
So you send back a point by point response, quoting FSANZ, holding temps and sanitising procedures, while also letting him know that you are a professional chef and have all the required food safety supervisor certifications.
You might say this isn't about colour...
But oh trust me. It is.
As some of you may know, if you have any students in your class who identify as Christian, they may ask to be excused from school to observe the Christian holiday of “#Christmas,” more popularly referred to as Yom Christmas or Nittel.

One of the worst aspects of the torrent of drivelly Christmas music whenever I make the mistake of turning on the radio is that it creates earworms of music I detest. Some of it does have pleasant tunes, but even the nicest tunes become noxious eventually when they're earworms.
It doesn't even take the radio: sometimes, just the mention of a Christmas tune will do it.
On the bright side, no one has mentioned Rudolph, the Red-Nosed--
OH, SHIT!
Writer, former software developer, tech writer, aerospace engineer (Apollo, Viking Mars lander). Atheist and anti-theist; I try not to go on too much about that and frequetnly fail. Mostly fairly leftwing except on certain subjects; ditto about going on too much about it. Come to think of it, that bit about going on too much about stuff applies to all of the above.
