I understand the warning and advising other people to block it on an individual basis. But why would you ask admins to block it? Why would you want admins to make decisions on what we can and can't see?

I guess that's the great thing about federation. I wholly disagree with that, but then I also joined an instance that doesn't filter anything for me.

@Demosthenes I want admins to act in protection of their users. Admins hold the trust of the community on their instance. We shouldn’t make blocking every single bigot or instance harboring such a problem that each of us has to solve repeatedly on our own. If an instance is clearly not safe per your own instances policies, a block helps everyone on the instance. It means a new user needn’t spend a bunch of time blocking racist shitbags who send threats to people.
