The trans discourse about that billboard ad in Cyberpunk 2077 is kind of bewildering to me. Like, I can get why people don't like it... it's by no means a grand gesture of inclusion or anything like that. There's nothing inherently progressive about it.

But, isn't a late capitalist cyberpunk dystopia supposed to be all about aggressive brazen marketing directed at individuals, about fetishization of bodies and form for profit? Like, why does a dysfunctional in-game world have to be even remotely politically correct at all?

@sean corporations haven't been trending towards sexual objectification, but towards amplification of identities that are monetizable. It's why white and black men aren't the focus. They're advertising resistant.
Any company that shows support for women, trans, or racial minorities get a flood of people who strongly attach their identity to those groups.
