@brainblasted making it all about race is reductive and counter-productive. Remember that the radical Bernie Sanders was almost the democratic candidate in 2016 and only wasn't because of tomfoolery.
There were many things that led to this moment. Racism is one of them. Economic anxiety, increasing inequality, growing distrust in institutions, social media misinformation, foreign influence, and a lot more are reasons too.
Without real self-reflection and trying to fix the issues head-on, things could get worse.

@rigatonimonster @brainblasted I won't. People blaming our woes on a narrow subset of problems while ignoring the structural issues underlying the system are why we're falling into this mess. We need to restore trust in the political system. For everyone, not just the left or the right.

@rigatonimonster racism is inseparably ingrained in the structural issues I am talking about, there is no doubt about that. I was responding to someone who said "A legitimate coup attempt came out of a black man becoming president and embarrassing a rich white man." As if it's all about race.
I can see why he would think that way. I'm sure his experience as a black man is very different from my own. But as I said before, blaming major structural issues on single causes is part of why things are so extreme right now.
Racism needs to be addressed, it is serious. But so are those other issues I mentioned, and they (arguably) drive our problems just as much as it.

@rigatonimonster lol! I might have ruined it, I just don't find any purpose in trolling. 😀

@Demosthenes I'm not going to argue with you about how racism is inseparably ingrained in the structural issues you're talking about, I'm just going to tell you to shut the fuck up when you tell a black person that bringing up racism is "reductive and counter productive"
if you want to keep talking on these sociological issues I suggest reading up on the Gar Glon Theory of Insersectionality. have you heard of it?
