@TiffyBelle@mastodon.online he made no mention of the fears millions of people have over the legitimacy of the election, he just pandered to his base.

We need to focus on rebuilding trust in the system, not suppressing political enemies.

@Demosthenes @TiffyBelle Donald Trump lied to you. He spread lies so he could attempt at success. Nothing Trump told to the government about the election was true, all falsified. I will believe what he says when the evidence turns out to be true. Until then, I want America to succeed. Not a lier.

@mattmadness @TiffyBelle@mastodon.online "Nothing Trump told to the government about the election was true" this may be true, but you don't fix those who already believe the potential lies by suppressing their capacity for speech. We need to fix the issues with our election system that make such claims possible. People, all people, need to trust the vote.

@mattmadness @TiffyBelle@mastodon.online make a good faith effort to find a compromise. I think voter ID laws, removal of hackable voting machines, and hand counts of votes going forward would do a lot. Pledging to investigate the election would do a lot, even if they still find that Biden won.

Recognizing that their anxieties are real and working to fix the issues that make those anxieties possible is the only way to stop this in the long term. If we don't, then the power vacuum will always be there, and someone will eventually take advantage of it to accrue and leverage power.
