In the 1930s, the British Interplanetary Society developed the world's first space suit. This is a replica of what would have been a functional suit (as best the science of the day could predict), not a fanciful costume.

People, we could have had moon knights.

I’m Susan Leemburg and I’m a teacher and PI at Charles University’s Medical Faculty in Pilsen.
I study how the rat hippocampus switches between different memory representations and how that relates to oscillations, and how changes in brain activity in during sepsis relate to brain damage and function recovery. I also teach biophysics.
Before that, I worked on sleep, stroke, motor learning and dopamine in Zurich.

Nice to e-meet you!

We have a sad tale today from Manchester Piccadilly station.

This is Chocolat. Or at least that's the name printed on their foot.
They're a lovely, cuddly black kitty who was sadly separated from their owner on Platforms 3 & 4 about 19.14.

We heard a tinkle of broken glass and helped their owner tidy up however she had left before I could pass this lovely kitty back to her owner.
Unable to find her on the nearby train we are a bit lost.

Please share this far and wide, across any social media and maybe we can help reunite this poor kitty with their rightful owner.
We will ensure Lost Property here look after her in the meantime.

As a teacher I sometimes feel like there is a mismatch between the amount of work I do and how that work is counted towards meeting my job requirements.

Like most teachers I'm expected to teach a certain number of courses. But it doesn't matter if it's a course I've taught before, or a totally new course I've developing it's all counted the same.

Designing a new course is much harder and takes much more time than teaching the same thing I taught last year to new students.

Doom Eternal update: made it to the super gore nest without rage quitting!#Gaming

Just renewed my payment to @Psy_Fer_ to keep genomics.social running. I am truly grateful for this space - it's become my favourite, and nearly my only, "social media" hangout. It just feels so much nicer around here without the toxic positivity of LinkedIn or the constant self-marketing of Twitter/Bsky. If you feel the same, consider donating to your instance's host, too 😉

It's Friday, time to break out the hard stuff.

This is the Moomin branded wild strawberry soda.

Well well well, what do we have here? Is that... real 3D data in my 3D ggplot? 🤫

The group behind Project 2025 has a chilling new plan for women - cut off the supports that allow them to be single, esp university professional education.

“Every effort must be made not to recruit women into engineering, but rather to recruit and demand more of men who become engineers,” he said.

“Ditto for med school & the law & every trade.”

I FINALLY finished the first level of Doom Eternal!! This is after many episodes of rage quitting, uninstalling and reinstalling the game because of the stupid platforming. Now I can rage quit level 2.

Sorry but I've been on the meme sites and can't help what I laugh at
