For #MosaicMonday this fantastic photo of a mosaic (and a lovely fish 🐟) that was discovered in the submerged ruins of #Roman Baiae.

This is good news!
The scientists behind the new independent organization Climate.us are the same experts Trump fired because they were researching and reporting on climate change.
Formerly NOAA’s http://Climate.gov, they didn’t disappear. They rebuilt.
Now they’re independent and preserving climate data, outside of political interference, with public support and a team of volunteer scientists.
Please enjoy this extremely silly Parakeet/Organic Chemistry joke I just came up with and made all by myself.
Our campers at #UKY did a great job coming up with great designs and decorations for their 3D-printed derby cars.
Not one, but two proposals to start encoding Maya hieroglyphs in Unicode!
This represents such a tremendous amount of research work, done by several impressive scholars over so many years.
And the Maya hieroglyphs (and their typographical rendition) are just so incredibly beautiful!

The university where I have an office is looking for a new University Librarian. It pays quite decent cash money, not in bananas.
I quite like the people who work at this place, so do share with any good librarian exec managers who want an office with three different possum species, many parrots and small birds, and copious quantities of bicycles on campus.

#HIRING! Senior Engineer, #python based full stack but leaning to devops/infra. 70/30 would be my ideal split. Fully remote UK only, £63,000 non negotiable sadly, but ~20% pension on top. Closing date: WEDS NOON! So get in touch (thayer@team-prime.com) asap if this might be you.
Org: healthcare, data, ~30 ppl team. Zero AI currently in place, but some may be implemented very gently/ethically/thoughtfully over next year.
NSF's grantmaking is miserly when compared to recent years. When we compare it to the historical record, we see it's a radical break from the long-term consensus of investing in scientific innovation. https://grant-witness.us/posts/2026-06-19_nsf_worst_year_in_generations/ #NSF #Science #USpol
Hi everyone! I'm a #postdoc in #cognitivePsychology . I research what happens when we get unexpected sensory input, and how we decide when we should learn from that unexpected input, and when we should disregard it because it's unlikely to be informative.
My PhD tested how #actuallyAutistic people may differ from non-autistic people when they get unexpected sensory input.
I'm also interested in inclusivity, mental health, space & art and will sometimes boost these topics.
[EDIT: sorted in minutes, thank you hive mind 😎 👍 ]
Before I pester a retired emeritus, does anyone have a legal way to send me a PDF of a 1987 physics paper that's not on arXiv?
Specifically "Can Planck-mass relics of evaporating black holes close the Universe?", J.H. MacGibbon.
PhD in Cell Biology
I am a Research Scientist and lab manager for the Tootle lab in the Biology department at the University of Iowa. We use Drosophila oogenesis to understand the mechanisms regulating prostaglandin production and function. My particular interest is the developmental roles of lipid droplets and their connection to prostaglandins.
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
