Meta, question about CW
Question for the more #tech savvy of you who are here on #Mastodon and understand how it works: why is it that link thumbnails can’t be CW’d? I wanna tweet about digests (lay summaries of scientific papers) and some of them (few but still some) have images that may be a bit unpleasant for some people, but even if I CW the toot the thumbnail for the link will show the image (see example here)
Meta, question about CW
That's because you are not sending the thumbnail, just the link. The thumbnail is done (or not done) by the server used by the reader of the toot.
Meta, question about CW
@EubieDrew ah, as in, the thumbnail appears BECAUSE the server makes it? Understood… hmmm. I wonder if there’s a way to disable my instance making thumbnails for my toots (or conversely my instance showing me thumbnails for other’s toots)
Meta, question about CW
Yeah, the reader's server, not yours.
You have no control over how other's view your toots. For example, some, like me, set open all CW's automatically.

@minimammoth That might already be a setting option, and I am just not aware. If I find out, I'll get back to you.

@EubieDrew cheers! I’ll have another look as well, I started looking earlier but got distracted by all the other settings I’m afraid.
