The new #sdr enclosure is finished!
It has an eerily low noise floor, I'm reaching -105dB in gqrx where it showed 90dB at best before. Interestingly, all my antennas have become more selective, maybe because of the added ferrite chokes.

It's made of some kind of chimney junction bracket and a thick adhesive aluminium tape.

The USB-over-FTP hack works great, but! The shielding foil must be earthed! USB gets patchy and gqrx controls feel laggy without that, the cable is just too long. No problem with patch cords < 2m or so. I have a specially made cable with the shield accessible on one end, that one works. I tried a different FTP "Cat6" cable of a similar length and the device wouldn't even enumerate.

Next to add is an FM-trap filter, because that trash is everywhere.

I'm now listening to very clear reception of a Macedonian AM radio at 810 MHz 👌

Well, congratulations there, enjoy the Macedonian radio then. I just cannot help myself thinking how funny it is that here a tech guy spends 2 weeks on a feat which used to be considered a trivial past time just 30-70 years ago. Remember these (see the pic)? Or these: canstockphoto.com/transistor-r ?

@FailForward you just brought my attention to my mistake in the post, kHz not MHz. smh

indeed so, you can build this receiver with a crystal, I did that when I was 12 or so. It only received the strongest stations, because there was no amplifier. It was a cool build though
