"The Right’s agenda is to dismantle American democracy and civil society to prevent us from becoming a true multiracial democracy. They’re willing to damage every institution and piece of infrastructure they can in service of that goal. No one is safe, and staying silent or pretending to be politically neutral won’t save you."

Of course, the intent of the article by Business Insider was to stop Bill Ackerman's ongoing attacks on Higher Education and Diversity and Inclusion by pointing out his wife's plagiarism. Exposing hypocrisy is a well known strategy for thwarting witch-hunts. We need to also be concerned about antisemitism, attacks on those supporting Palestinian rights and all sorts of instances that need to balance freedom of expression with personal safety. And we should address academic standards for attribution in publications.
But the issue of the moment is an attack on academia by wealth elites who desire even more control than they already have.
If you're paying attention, you'll realize Claudine Gay's resignation is only nominally about plagiarism, anti-semitism, DEI. Ryan Enos explains why we should be very worried about attacks on public and private higher education in the US. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/01/03/opinion/claudine-gay-resignation-harvard-mob-rule/?event=event12
The firestorm of criticism Claudine Gay faced from reactionaries like Elise Stefanik or Christopher Rufo has nothing to do with antisemitism or plagiarism.
We know this because Stefanik herself is a plagiarist. Hypocrisy is mandatory on the right now. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/elise-stefanik-kathy-manning-letter-universities_n_65786041e4b0881b79187d76
Today with breathtaking clarity the political journalists of the New York Times show us they cannot rise to the challenge of this election. The will portray it as just two candidates clashing, each calling the other a threat to democracy. “Reality Is at Stake” the headline reads—but these reporters will not tell us what the reality is, even though they know.

Abortion on FL Ballot!
A coalition of Florida abortion rights supporters surpassed the required number of signatures needed to put a referendum on next year's ballot, according to the latest data from the state Division of Elections.
Why it matters: If advocates succeed in enshrining abortion rights in Florida's constitution through the ballot measure, it would have massive implications for reproductive health care across the South.

Notice how the right wingers who banned Black people from schools, jobs, military, & public spaces, banned Latino & Asian immigration, locked up Japanese Americans, broke hundreds of treaties with Native Americans—& are now banning teaching that history—want you to stop making everything about race.😐
🤯 Breaking news! After his wife Neri Oxman admitted to "cited but unquoted sources" in her academic work (gasp! The same thing Claudine Gay did!), Bill Ackman is calling for his wife to be fired immediately!
Just kidding. You already know that he's not.
The same dudes that attacked Claudine for saying, "My bad. Will add the quotes. But I stand by my work. I didn't take ideas." are calling Neri "brave" and "setting a good example" for doing the exact same thing🙂🙃
But you already knew that too.

"Bill Ackman and other opponents of diversity, equity and inclusion programs won’t stop with academia." "DEI is about social justice, but it’s also about attracting and retaining top talent, setting them up to succeed and having a workforce and leadership team that reflects the population their companies serve. These are far from short-term goals. In the long run, they’re investments that will pay off. The diminutive Karoo dwarf tortoise may play a key role in seed dispersal of plant species in its semidesert habitat in South Africa, a new study finds.
A germination trial showed the tortoises transport seeds to microsites suitable for germination, a potentially vital means for plants to survive drought in the arid Karoo region.
