“Congratulations to Donald Trump for realizing that his position and his record on abortion are wildly unpopular, particularly with women who will decide this election. But rather than give him credit for a disingenuous and unserious proposal that contradicts his own GOP platform, we’ll credit him for something he actually did: overturning Roe v. Wade..." - EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler

I remember a time when the mainstream American media would end political careers over far less than this.

Hell, they forced Joe Biden to drop out of the race over far less than this.

And yet, Trump gets treated very differently. No one is asking if he is fit to be president, because the media has an extreme far-right bias.

Weird how JD Vance's ire and disgust about childlessness is directed entirely at women, that WOMEN who haven't given birth shouldn't be making any decisions on anything in government and education, but he doesn't say anything about MEN who don't have children. He doesn't seem to have a problem with men in government and education who haven't spawned their own children.

Why, it almost makes one think he, and the entire GOP, hates women.

Weird, huh?

Someone shared this on BlueSky and I’m gonna try to keep it in mind while I process the loss of Steve Silberman.

Today, the Klamath River is flowing freely for the first time in more than 100 years.

The dams have been removed. The ecosystems are being nurtured. And sovereignty has been restored to the Shasta Indian Nation over another 2800 acres. Good things are happening. Great things are possible. lostcoastoutpost.com/2024/aug/

OMG, it's a public health miracle. The CDC is calling cleaner air a "core strategy" for Respiratory Virus Prevention! It's posted on social media and provided a link to the CDC website recommending opening windows, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors. (But, it still calls masks and physical distancing "additional strategies" and not "core strategies.") #COVID19

How #NewMexico Made #ChildCare Free for Most #Families
Susan Shain

..."in August 2021, New Mexico dramatically expanded its child-care subsidy program to include families earning up to 400 percent of the poverty line, making roughly half of the state’s children eligible. For a family of four, like Losito’s, that now includes households earning up to $124,800 annually. The state has also waived all co-pays, making child care free for qualified fam "...

It truly is amazing to me that Trump can have daily psychotic meltdowns on Truth Social replete with threats, misogyny, and fascistic fantasies, in between hawking overpriced trinkets depicting himself alternatively as Rambo & Superman, and media just yawns and ignores it all.

"The elephant in the room these days is that most Republicans (and) many pundits, are pretending that Trump is a normal presidential candidate. They are ignoring his mental lapses, calls for authoritarianism, grifting, lack of grasp on any sort of policy, and criminality, even as he has hollowed out the once grand Republican Party and threatens American democracy itself."

Kamala Harris’ plan to raise taxes on billionaires is not radical.

What’s radical is accepting a system where billionaires pay lower effective tax rates than nurses, teachers, and truck drivers.

Republicans, & esp. those on WS, have been calling Harris' plan to combat #pricegouging, cost controls, but the gouging is true, evidence:

"A top corporate exec from Kroger's grocer admitted in court to raising prices on eggs, milk, & other staples, well above inflation while 7/8 top nat. news cos. all claimed 'greedflation' isn't real & universally panned Kamala Harris anti-price gouging plans."

"Big Oil Is the Winner From Dutch Carbon Capture Subsidies." #GreenWashing

A flagship climate scheme will cost taxpayers billions, with no guarantee of a meaningful impact on GWG. The tech has secured official backing in large part bc it helps govts persuade voters they're taking #climate action, while stopping short of the kind of rapid, fundamental transformation of economies needed to end the use of FF.

Cost to the Dutch taxpayer: at least 4B euros in subsidies.
