When you have the clamps, why not use them?

This dovetail case needed a bit of convincing that it's "hip to be square"

Drawing horses is hard. Drawing horses with a laptop trackpad is harder still.

(Drawn just now, with absolutely zero reference!)

I remember seeing Iain Banks talking at a convention some years back. He described his process as six months of very hard thinking followed by six months of frantic writing. But those months of hard thinking were every bit as much a part of writing a book as the actual composition. Sometimes, "writing" has nothing to do with putting words on a page. Sometimes, a long walk on a blustery beach achieves more than a whole day spent staring at a blank sheet of paper.

Most US folk don't know about COINTELPRO, the FBI program that targeted Black civil rights leaders for false arrest, and yes, assassination. US folks don't know this, because it's not taught in schools. But Black kids know about COINTELPRO.

Most US folk don't know what a "Black Identity Extremist" is. Again, not taught in schools. If you joined a George Floyd BLM protest, there's a good chance you were investigated as a Black Identity Extremist. Again by the FBI. Black kids know this.

What is something you learned in math that made you loose a sense of innocence-- knowledge that you can never unlearn that changes the world forever?

I used to write short stories and poems, but somewhere along the line I became afraid to share and eventually just … stopped writing.

But life is too short to live inauthentically.

Yesterday, in a travel-weary state of mind, I challenged myself to write something, anything. Because I’ve been reconnecting with my love of poetry, that’s where I went.

And today I’m taking the plunge. I’m sharing what I wrote before my inner critic has time to build up a persuasive case to stay quiet.

Stories I Used to Tell Myself

Disabled isother people.

The glassthat mediatesmy daily existence?Only window dressing,I’m fine.

The catchin my breath,it’s so mild.I carry help just in case, butI’m fine.

The neuronsdon’t always keep up,others have it worse.I sought help, but trust meI’m fine.

No matter thatI am not enough to survivethis game unaidedon my own,I’m fine.

Disabled?Too strong of a word.

Disabled?Naw.Not me.

Serenity.
Black and white photography emphasizes silence, loneliness, depth.
There is nothing superfluous here.
Just look at this photo.

I’m not much of an artist (I started sketching to send my daughter to school with a snack note) but one of the things that’s surprised me is that it feels like the process is more about “seeing” the thing you’re drawing more than the actual process of making lines on paper. I have no idea if that’s a common experience or not. Oddly, I occasionally find that the thing I’m drawing will take on a life of its own (which is where I find myself with a coyote playing a synthesizer)

I wanted to take a few moments and apologize to many of my former students.

In the past I said the industry needs people who look at security as a vocation and an avocation.

I was wrong.

Have a life outside of this industry.

Have hobbies that have nothing to do with your computer.

Get outside.

The problems of the industry are not problems of people not working hard enough.

They are not problems of people not being "hard core" enough.

They are problems of education and resource prioritization.

I was wrong.

I am sorry.

Stop breaking yourself on rocks for people who don't really care if you break yourself on rocks.

Dogs are partly (red-green) color bind. If you want to know what your dog sees, install the app "Chromatic Vision Simulator" on your phone.

Select option P (protanopia), point the camera towards something colorful and you will see things from the dog's perspective.

You will quickly notice that the choices we make when it comes to the color of toys often aren't the best.

told my daughter to watch her attitude. she said for complaints about her attitude, contact the manufacturer. well-played, kid.

“Oh this? It’s my emotional support pile of empty notebooks,” I say as I tenderly add another to the stack.

Stressed? Got that Friday the 13th feeling?

Just watch this. It's video Valium.
