As a Y2K veteran, getting serious old-programmer vibes filling out online forms with only two digits for the years.

If you have a hard time imagining Twitter collapsing or Facebook becoming irrelevant, remember that there was a time that Yahoo! was synonymous with The Internet and it seemed like nothing could stop it from world domination. It had purchased Flickr which was an absolute thousand-pound-giant-gorilla destination that OWNED online images. It had all the cards to play to the end.

These things never last. Money isn't smart and it always destroys the thing if left to its own devices.

I was woken up today by a phone call letting me know that due purely to budgeting changes I’ve been let go from my full-time contracting position I just started in January after being laid off in September.

I am a former #Apple #engineer with 15 years of experience making apps for #iOS and #macOS. I also have experience with #Ruby. Available immediately for full time or contract work.

Please boost. #Swift #RubyOnRails

I'm still looking for a job. Anybody need a programmer in the San Francisco Bay area? I'm a python programmer with experience in C/C++/Java/JS, I've done a bunch of CI/CD/SRE in the recent years, lots of tooling and back end web dev, and I've got a good deal of amateur experience doing reverse engineering and embedded development.
(I've done devops work but I'm trying to move away from that because too often it turns into just "ops", and I am a programmer.)

I repeatedly fall into the trap of working on my emacs configuration rather than doing the work I've set up my emacs configuration to help me with...

Making TONS of progress recently on the app and servers — at the expense of answering email and checking in here very much.

Rest assured, work is happening! And you'll see the results of it in the future. (Thanks for your patience!)

Why is the Fed putting the onus of fighting inflation on workers and consumers rather than on the corporations largely responsible for driving up prices — and padding profit margins?

This is wrong. It’s ridiculous policy. And it’s profoundly unfair.

Stop raising rates.

This RV has the kind of innovation I've been waiting on forever. This, behind an electric pickup, would be the ultimate touring vehicle.

Personally, I'd like something a little smaller and I think it could also have better aero, which would make it more affordable, but this is the start of self-propelled, solar integrated trailers. #electricvehicles insideevs.com/news/656257/ligh

not sure of my circulation on Mastadon yet, but..... does anyone have any ideas for an internship, or a paid opportunity in the Long Beach, CA area for someone who intends to major in entomology? currently doing gen ed at Long Beach City College, with intention to transfer to UCRiverside.

Got an extremely talented MDR manager friend looking for a new place to call 'work'. They're dynamite and have one of the snappiest wits I've ever seen. Anyone know of a place looking for one? TIA <3

Hello world! Elon Musk picking a twitter fight with Icelandic philanthropist and man of the year 2022 Haraldur Thorleifsson ended up being the final push that we needed, so now we are here on Mastodon. We don't know how any of this works, but follow us for posts on vision science, cognitive psychology, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, and stupid memes.

I need your help gentlemen. I remember a quote about XP practices regarding development which was something like.

"As programmers, we promise that the code we deliver today will allow us to write code tomorrow that is no more expensive than it would be to write today".

It was regarding Simplicity, design for today and cost of change curve.

Can anybody point me at the actual quote as I'm sure I've mangled it, or laud me as a thought leader for making up a quotable quote out of my dreams?

After just a few hours on #Mastodon, it kind of feels like I slipped away from the #Twitter living room where the obnoxious party crashers were wrecking everything. And now I've found the basement where all the original cool partygoers are hiding from the trolls and enjoying each other's company.

I got laid off yesterday. We'll be ok, but it still sucks. Tough time to be on the market.

I'm giving myself space this week, but applied to a role yesterday 🤞🏻

Reminder: Prior to 1982, stock buybacks were considered stock manipulation. It was Reagan's SEC that opened the floodgates to their abuse.

Stock buybacks don’t create more jobs. They don't increase wages. They don’t grow the economy.

They make corporate execs richer. Hello?
