Mastodon has lists. You might just need to use the web page as a mobile client, or buy Fedilab, to see them on mobile.
@IAmErik It turns out that you need to follow somebody to put them in a list. Alas, that defeats the way I used to use lists on Twitter to put people that I liked, but who tweeted/retweeted so much that they would tend to drown out the quieter voices in my timeline. I'll have to give it more thought. Maybe using a list of the quieter tooters would work, but if the mobile app doesn't support lists that could be problematic. We'll see.
In any case, thanks again for the tip!
@patioboater
I think that when I follow somebody, they are automatically added to my home feed. But once they are followed, I can add them to a list and remove them from my home feed by clicking the plus next to the list I want to add them to, and then clicking the minus on the home feed list. I’m pretty sure that I did that it using the desktop web interface.
I find that using the web interface to set up most of my follows and lists works well. I haven’t done a lot of that using my mobile client, though, but I haven’t really tried much of it since I switched to a paid app. I should probably explore that a bit more.
@IAmErik Ahhhh, I didn’t realize you can move folks from your home list to another list while still following them cool! Try, try again.
I’m still using the “official” mobile app while I set up shop. But I’m sure I’ll try others.
@IAmErik Thanks! Very helpful to know as I slowly set up shop hereabouts.
