I once asked a co-worker if he was from Missouri, or Flint. I honestly did not know, but I did know that many people I have met from Flint have a Missouri accent due to that migration you're referring to. (It turns out that he is from Flint, and also a really good bass player. We bonded over that conversation. 🙂)

@IAmErik Funny, I never thought about how folks from a certain state would end up in the same neighborhood, but it makes sense that they would. I'm in Ypsilanti, I get the impression that a lot of folks from Alabama settled here, and I've met a few with roots in Arkansas as well. And yes, lots of great musicians came up as well, a talent they passed on to later generations! :-)
