https://poops.nz/ COVID-19 Wastewater Dashboard update today - results to 18 Dec. Overall levels up. About 40 samples arrived today (thanks collectors & couriers) to complete this weeks sampling. Another update to include this weeks results, before we finish for the holidays.

I asked ChatGPT to produce some R code to complete a rather annoying data collection and cleaning process. It involved reading a number of excel sheets, merging them, renaming the variables and doing some regex to split some of the data.

Cases on of COVID-19 had been slowly rising in South Africa since Sep. Currently roughly 475 per day on a 7-day moving average. Impact on admissions, hospital deaths and excess deaths appear limited.
This was driven by a rise in cases from KwaZulu-Natal which seems to be levelling off now, but Gauteng province cases seems to have started accelerating. In both provinces impact on admissions and deaths appear limited.

Testing volumes again down, and signs of a decrease in the proportion testing positive in most provinces. Data from Limpopo (showing an increase) are too scanty to interpret with any degree of certainty

Johnson collapsed at a game on December 12, 2020, before vaccines were even available.

Copying and pasting in the Mastodon app still seems problematic and risk of a crash is high, so I will append my comments below here. About 2 weeks ago my husband tested positive for #SarsCoV2 and we all got #Covid in a matter of 2-3 days. While not assymptomatic our children initially had light symptoms. But my son got very sick on his day 6/7 and scared me. Check your kid's tonsils if you suspect or confirm they have Covid and if you can, test. Covid is unfortunately not over.
