I see that #photoMonday is a thing here at Mastodon, so here's a photo of a leopard taken in South Africa a few years ago. She was sitting on this termite mound while keeping an eye on a nearby suitor whose attention she seemed to have captured. #wildlife #leopard #africa
@saragoldrickrab RSA = South Africa. I am so used to typing RSA for short on Twitter where text is more limited. 😅
@saragoldrickrab Very sorry to hear this. My husband tested positive about 2 weeks ago. Whole family tested positive in the next 3 days. Thank goodness for the antigen tests my SIL from Germany gave us. I am in RSA and home tests are not available here. Almost nobody test here and I can't really blame them as tests are not cheap to the average person in RSA. My son got quite sick with tonsilitis. He's ok now, but he scared me for 2 days.
Welcome @thesassymicrobe !
@ariskatzourakis About 2 weeks ago my husband tested a strong positive for Covid (grateful to have had antigen tests given by my SIL; RSA have no self tests). Our son got quite sick and developed tonsillitis. I am furious that we can't vaccinate our kids or get 2nd boosters. I would have preferred getting that BEFORE Covid. And since nobody is testing, a lot of people think Covid is over. Not a great situation.
@ariskatzourakis I am concerned for the people of RSA where Covid is now handled as "a ordinary disease". People don't test, do not even wear masks if they have symptoms and send there kids maskless to school saying they all had "a cold the past week". Shocking vaccination rates and even more shocking booster uptake. My husband and I don't qualify for 2nd boosters because we are below 50. Our kids are below 12 and are not eligible for vaccination.
No urgency wrt updated boosters.
@peterdrake My husband loves that site! We got many games for the kids as well as gifts for kiddie parties using review tips of that site.
@peterdrake Aw man. So cute!
The #flower of #Dorstenia is not a true flower, but a #pseudanthium (Greek for “false flower”) – clusters of bisexual flowers on disc-shaped receptacles that are variable in size and shape. The female flowers within the receptacles mature first. The male flowers are scattered among the female flowers, concentrated on the outer edge of the receptacle or separated by a flower-free zone at the outer edge.

Good profile of Fauci.
He says that if people don’t believe him as an individual, it’s no big deal. "But when they mistrust the whole concept of science, that’s really scary." We are, he says, "living in an era of the normalization of untruths."
