** Polls plural, on basis that each polling station is a poll - or perhaps each constituency, but there is not a national poll, as such
*** Fewer rather than less, though both can perhaps work in this context as it is implicit a 100 hour *period*
**** Thursday is the day on which there is the general election, hence 'general election day'
