@LaNaehForaday Someone pointed out to them that following the Devil to Hell isn't a great idea. But they were willingly supporting him for decades, so I don't give them a pass.
@LaNaehForaday , maybe... I misspoke, Small pox was ended by a fascist military dictatorship.
@bkm , I preferred it when he was just covering up murders at GITMO.
@lowqualityfacts , I think history shows she only killed 7, and she used a knife...
@PointyFluff @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @LaNaehForaday True, communism seems to break down if the population becomes greater than the point where every member knows the name of every other member. This seems to be a pretty firm rule of thumb, but can be overcome with something like the internet, where you CAN learn the name of the person in front of you.
@PointyFluff @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @LaNaehForaday , communism works great in small communities. A kubitz in Israel, for example. There are several communist libertarian societies that exist in the USA today, mostly loose communities of libertarians living subsistence lifestyles, without much government, and mutually supporting each other. Disney has a show about one of these, Port Protection Alaska.
@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @LaNaehForaday , capitalism works great in some situations. If you want to go to the moon, build an internet, map the world, etc, I doubt there is a better system than capitalism. The problem is it also works to create efficient wars, spread diseases, undercut labor (and don't get me wrong, unions are pure capitalist constructs, I am not talking about them here) and literally incentivise pollution. We don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. Without capitalism, the Corona Virus would still not have a vaccine. Polio would be spreading. Small pox would still be a thing. There are positive and negatives for every form of economies and government. Even a religious dictatorship has merit, in small ways, with the right conditions.
@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @dictvm we can... if you are willing to fight.
@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social this meme can be applied to all human constructs. What we need to do is accept the faults of any system, and work to minimize them. We can't do that if we hold any system up as "the best". There are conditions that make a military dictatorship "the best" option. And times when Capitalism, Communism, and Anarchy are the best choices.
@SNerd is this a penis joke?
@wonkothesane @Talia_christine I already saw a quote from one congress critter saying those charges were nothing.
@Talia_christine no, now they have PROOF! Time to double down and try to convict his cat or something...
Still trying to find my people on Mastodon. Please boost if you:
-Like pizza.
-Enjoy watching movies.
-Have recurring dreams that you are a frog.
-Feel distraught when you wake up and realize that you are in fact not a frog.
-Spend your days studying ancient texts in search of a forbidden incantation that transforms humans into amphibians.
We say "read to kids"
...and they start fantasizing about sexually exploiting children.
We say "pee in a bathroom"
...and they start fantasizing about sexually abusing women
We say "follow doctors' advice"
...and they start fantasizing about genital mutilation.
Here's a thought - maybe it's not us who are the perverts and sex deviants.
@t4hiro @MaryAliciaZiff@mastodon.sdf.org @protecttruth , the prices are actually going way up... because the quality is going up too. You can easily spend $20K, and get lithium ion batters that will carry the car 150 miles or so. But, for a city car, you don't need to spend that much.
@t4hiro @MaryAliciaZiff@mastodon.sdf.org @protecttruth it looks like I can do it for about $10K. Out of my price range for what is essentially a toy, but I think doable for most folks.
@gaypharm , paper, but I BUY more e-books, because the piles of books in my house are a fire hazard.
The award-winning graphic novel #Maus (a Holocaust allegory) is facing new bans; it's author, Art Spiegelman, shares his worries in a new WaPo piece, gifted so y'all can read it: https://wapo.st/3qJALYR
Then, #NewJersey #Fediverse peeps: use this EveryLibrary form to email your NJ Assembly/Senate reps to support new "ban the #bookban" bills (A5499, S3893, S3907) requiring NJ #libraries adopt the ALA Bill of Rights or other policies prohibiting book bans. https://www.saveschoollibrarians.org/njaslbookbans
@PamelaBarroway , I mean, is it really fair to cast Nazis in such a bad light??
