@Hey_Beth @noondlyt @flexghost @enoch , yep, and you did a MUCH better job of putting that concept into a short set of words than I did. :)

@noondlyt @Hey_Beth @flexghost @enoch , ya, but little BS. No one calling for cheers for the best POTUS ever, be that Biden or trump. No one taking offence when you point out something bad some politician did. I picked a STEM server here, so those on this server don't get too bent out of shape over politics, and we can discus rationally whatever we wish, without partisans going nuts screaming. Post is like that, but more news cycle driven. I like that dry feeling.

@Hey_Beth @noondlyt @flexghost @enoch , I kinda like Post. The BS level is low, due to the site just not being used as an echo chamber. There are some who try, but most of the big accounts are showing real news, and not spin.

@enoch @Hey_Beth , some of the servers are foul, nothing but hate groups. But you can see lists of those, and pre-emptively block those servers, if you want, or just wait until some of the bigots target you and then block them. That freedom is a good thing... I expect bluesky to become an echo chamber, much like Tribel is becoming.

, at this point, he understands I was trying to help him, but the fundraising page still says he has only made a prototype, and that he is far from shipping. Reality is those who paid for air freight have already gotten they carts... But I will be damned if I try to explain to him anymore! God only knows how much business this will cost him...

@w7voa , I suspect this is a good thing, for both nations.

Dealing with people on the spectrum is exhausting. I have a guy who I am buying a cart from, who apparently thinks everything is a personal attack. His latest outrage is that I have been suggesting others buy one of his carts, and suggested he post that he is manufacturing them right now, that you can order one right now! He is FURIOUS. His reasoning? I must be an idiot that I don't know that he is in production....

@randahl , I think I am going to go knock over a liquor store, 'for the people.'

I don’t mind being just me. Average. Medium. Not always everyone’s taste. Quiet. In the corner. Spouting what I believed is eloquence. Occasionally opinionated and a little prickly. Gently honest. Doing what I can to spread what I believe is kindness.

It’s me. That’s ok. Only took 40 years to get there. Can’t imagine what I’ll have learned about myself by 80.

In 1952, the British government prosecuted Turing for what it termed "gross indecency."

He was gay, which to them was a crime. To avoid prison he was forced to submit to chemical castration. A few years later he took his own life by ingesting cyanide.

Turing’s codebreaking work at Bletchley Park during WWII had been critical to the war effort and saved tens of thousands of lives, maybe more. The British government repaid him with demonization and persecution.

@SNerd @dump_stack@lor.sh , on a side note, these principles are NOT endorsed by the current Libertarian Party. The party has been subverted, over a span of several decades, by republicans. They tend to support government at all levels, even if they talk like libertarians. This point is not important to this conversation though, as billionaires are not Libertarian Party supporters either.

@SNerd @dump_stack@lor.sh Moral stances can always be ignored, true. This is true for any individual or group of people. That doesn't change what those stances ARE. For libertarians, you can't cause anyone else harm. This is a core principle. Violating that would be like a Christian sect that doesn't believe in Jesus. The fundamental belief of Christians is that they are followers of Jesus. Now, the individual groups may pervert this, even lying about the teachings of Jesus, but that doesn't change the basic core principle. Also, it isn't 'big government' that libertarians oppose, it is 'government' at any level that violates individual rights. Government exists for one reason only, to a libertarian, to protect individuals. This is not what billionaires believe, at their core.

@SNerd @dump_stack@lor.sh , another point to make, is all libertarians, without exception, are anti fascist. You can't have both positions. There are many libertarian communist communities in the world, some right here in the USA. But fascism and libertarianism just don't mix. they are diametrically opposed.

@SNerd @dump_stack@lor.sh , because one of the primary moral stances of libertarians is if you cause harm to people, you get to fix the problem. Your property rights do not extend to harming your neighbors. There is no exception to this rule.

@dump_stack@lor.sh @SNerd Exactly. One of the Koch brothers ran as a libertarian for office back in the late 70s, but left the party when he figured out his family company would be destroyed by a libertarian government. Imagine being responsible to clean up your own oil spills??

@SNerd I highly doubt any billionaire is a libertarian. The concepts are almost mutually exclusive.
