@SNerd , I think government is the cause, not the solution. Wanna end homelessness? get rid of building codes that prohibit cheaper housing. Allow people to live in campers or mobile homes. If they want to pitch a tent or private property, let them. Add public transportation (Ya, government CAN help) to places where the current homeless can live. End the war on drugs that help drive homelessness.
OK, not sure where I first saw the post about truffles, and getting them from the back yard. If that was you, thank you. I have now tried some purchased from Amazon, and I will say that they are incredibly mild in flavor, but definitely add a flavor to food that is undeniably good. A small amount worked as well as a chunk straight to the tongue.
@BrideOfLinux , the guy is obviously on the spectrum.
I'm a bit too far south, but expect issues to arise with the electrical grid, communications, etc. Those often accompany solar storms of this magnitude.

I awoke from a very convincing dream this morning, that made me understand God. I mean, I completely understand it. Even after being awake for a moment, getting that 1st bit of coffee, that dream is still dominant in my head and thoughts. I tried to explain my dream to my wife, and she said "if you completely understood me, you would have made me breakfast."
@LilyoftheRally @Talia_christine they should consider strongly if they want to catch those flies... because they are not flies, those are vultures, and democracy isn't quite dead yet.
@rand @enoch @flexghost it will take more than that for me. No champagne until his followers and sycophants have turned on him.
@Talia_christine anyone who says "my friends on the GOP side of the House", or "we need to work with the Republicans to..." these people I do not trust. I question their ability to reason.
@petergleick , roughly 750 million population. Roughly 3K in the USA... That is roughly 10X the rate of the USA. I think that may explain why the USA doesn't seem to be as concerned about climate change. We haven't hit that point where we know it can be us or our kids yet.
I remember watching Spaceballs as a kid and being struck by the extreme version of the "lived in" future that is Lone Star and Barf's space Winnebago. Like at some point the technology would be so good that you could have a shitty rundown spaceship that was barely limping along, but at least it wouldn't kill you. The basic tech being sound enough that, like a car, you could afford to be cavalier about the upkeep, knowing you can get by without perfect maintenance.
Anyways, I run a website now.
@JohnShirley2023 @trammel@mastodon.online @sbdivya , I think Ms Divya is taking a principled stance. My only question to her was if she could accept the award without attending. I think winning and not attending would be a better choice. But, not my choice to make... And the rules for winning are unknown to me. You can possibly speak to that.
I think I took umbrage at the use of the words "virtue signalling". I think of that as a negative... Possibly because I was raised in a western nation. But the words themselves are not bad... But seem to be (mostly) used by those with bad intent. If that raising my hackles contributed to any misunderstanding, I apologize.
But I think Trammel said it best: "...she's saying their complicit by having an awards show there. That complicity serves as a tacit approval of China's oppresion which she cannot brook."
@trammel@mastodon.online @JohnShirley2023 @sbdivya , in support of John's theory, even if I doubt it, I present the Golden Arches Theory:

@dichotomiker @sbdivya I had not read this
story before today, and now that I have, it is totally deserving of any award. I do recommend it.
@JohnShirley2023 @trammel@mastodon.online @sbdivya ya, I doubt that. And that is probably the fundamental reason we seem to disagree.
@JohnShirley2023 @trammel@mastodon.online @sbdivya I haven't slandered anything. I am not the Hugo nominee. I highly doubt anyone has slandered anyone or anything but China, and I can understand that point of view. Most governments are worthy of a bit of slander.
@JohnShirley2023 @trammel@mastodon.online @sbdivya Is acting out of vanity immoral, in your opinion? If not, why bring it up at all? If it is, how?
@w7voa , figure they caught maybe 90% of them. Those odds change if the person was actively concealing them.
@JohnShirley2023 @trammel@mastodon.online @sbdivya do you feel stating your values is immoral?
@cep @JohnShirley2023 @sbdivya , I strongly agree with this. Even when I changed values, which I have from time to time, those earlier positions I took I am unashamed of. I wouldn't take the same position NOW, but then I did, and I have no regrets. I do regret several actions I took where I tried to be popular, or go with the flow, or follow the herd when I disapproved of those actions.
@JohnShirley2023 @sbdivya , those people need to be true to themselves. That isn't any of my concern.
BS in Physics. Will not tolerate hate. I am active here and on Post.
