Final day of my trip was supposed to be uneventful. California had different ideas. Got caught in the middle of a flash flood in the desert. After a couple of hours, we were able to turn around and get out. Then caught a dust storm outside of Palm Springs. Finally got in safe and sound, getting settled into the apartment.

Last day of our cross-country sojourn to my sabbatical in the Jones Lab: the Grand Canyon! Wasn't able to catch sunset over the canyon due to some bad advice, but the super moon, cloud cover and lightning gave us a fabulous light show. Tomorrow, our new home for the next six months!

Hiked to Devil's Bridge this morning. I got vertigo 3/4 of the way up the last climb, but my wife made it all the way. Absolutely gorgeous hike. Tomorrow, the Grand Canyon!

Day 3 of my cross-country trip: hiking at Petrified Forest National Park and staying in Sedona. Absolutely amazing!

Day 2 of my cross-country trip to start my year -long sabbatical. Today, lunch in Amarillo Texas! Hope to make Albuquerque by tonight.

The windmill farms across Oklahoma and North Texas are amazing. Those things look so delicate and elegant.

Is it a crime to lie about your height and weight when being booked for another crime?

Had a great time at the GenNext Scientific Advisory Board meeting. Always learn something from this great group of scientists, and had a great time doing it!

Had a Sharp Group holiday lunch. Nice to spend some social time with the team. Happy holidays!

I am thrilled to announce the publication of our most recent paper, which can be found at doi.org/10.1021/acs.analchem.2. We couple hydroxyl radical protein footprinting inline with weak anion exchange chromatography to measure the structural changes caused by phosphorylation/dephosphorylation of specific residues in a protein DURING a phosphatase reaction! This work opens up structural analysis of a wide variety of dynamic systems, where a particular conformer or proteoform cannot be isolated for high res structure elucidation. Very proud of this work, and of the group members that made it possible. @strucbio

First holiday baking of the season: deep dish peanut butter chocolate chip cookie pie.

Congratulations to Zhi Cheng for the successful defense of her dissertation, entitled "Development of Hydroxyl Radical Protein Footprinting for Challenging Systems." We're all very proud, and wish her luck in her career at GenNext Technologies!

Great to have a mini-Sharp lab reunion with Selina, Niloofar and Chuck. Happy to see so many former lab members doing well!

Excited to be back in Half Moon Bay! Can't wait to meet with the team and talk about all of the new technology developments we have in the pipeline.
