H1B visa is exactly the type of visa an employer would want. Since it's a sponsored visa and you will be ejected from the country without a sponsor it promotes loyalty to whatever company that is.

It's not a great visa but I completely understand why Tech CEO's like it.

@rockhamster But it also implies and encourages a transition to green card and then citizenship - both of which free the employee. It can also be transferred to a new employer - though it's a hassle.

Whereas other types of working visas actively discourage transition to a green card, and very firmly tie the employee to that specific company.

@TomF yes that's true. There are some even more restrictive so yes it is better than them. I was thinking more compared to other countries.

@rockhamster Ah, got it. I have no experience with visas in other countries. But they can't possibly be worse than the US.

Montenegrin employment visas are non-transferable and never lead to a "green card". Swiss ones require crazy stays to be able to switch to a "green card" equivalent.
