Turns out my laptop celebrates its 7th birthday today! And it's only second or third time in the last three years* that I want a faster CPU than my current Intel Core i7-7700HQ. I'm running git bisect run 'make -j9', so could use some extra cores. Other than that, it looks like quad core is the sweet spot for modern everyday use (Firefox, mostly).
* I just don't recall any further than that, but I also bet that in the first 4 years of owning it I didn't experience any desire to get an even faster machine. My previous one had first-generation Intel Core i3 and office-level cooling, so the jump to 7th-gen i7 with gaming cooling satiated my appetite for quite a while.**
** Okay, I think I earned an entry to "Footnote Lovers Club" now.
Yay, bisect is done just in time! Let's see how I managed to break the build.
