I suspect SpaceX is doing well because the engineers from the outset have said "Everything must have math that works or it explodes IRL" and he's been just smart enough to know not to fuck with it. (And perhaps a few of those explosions spacex where notorious for earlier in their history where from trying to micromanage engineers and overriding the dire math warnings)
But he seems to think because he knows a bit of PHP he can do what guys who have been wrangling hard super distributed compute problems for decades.
@shayneoneill From what I understand, SpaceX has formed a culture specifically around "handling" Musk. They have learned to distract him with bright lights and pretty colors so the real work can get done in the next room.
