I'm going to stop boosting or commenting on anything which links to a paywall block. I refuse to sign up and pay for something I won't be making regular frequent use of, it would just be a waste of money.

I accept good journalism needs to be funded but blocking access to the casual reader isn't the way to do it, imho.

@AlisonW I have long that that these sites should have a micropayment option. I would pay, say, $0.25 (sorry for the USAan) to read an article if I could do it quickly and easily.

I am _not_ going to subscribe to a paper in randomistan just for one article on some subject in which I am mildly interested

@misanthropesq Check out Coil/Interledger. It was a pretty cool idea (although it appears Coil has been discontinued).

The idea was that you'd pay a flat $10 per month, and then install a browser extension. Each month, the extension would track your time on participating sites and your money would be split up and sent out based on how much time you spent on them.

@LouisIngenthron that gets at the idea, but the tech lawyer in me knows that implementation would be horrible.
