I'm seeing a lot of differing opinions from the Mastodon community about Pat Robertson dying.

While I certainly have no sympathy for the man, I find it absolutely grotesque how many people are going out of their way to celebrate his death.

Relief and indifference are acceptable responses. But if a human being dying elates you, you might be due for some serious introspection, because that seems to me to be the first step down a very dark path.

To dehumanize our enemies is to become them.

@LouisIngenthron actually we’re fine if you don’t celebrate his death, but if you were so privileged you never felt the impact of the hate he spewed, maybe you aren’t the person to scold the people he harmed.

@JJPeterson You're making a lot of unfounded assumptions with that accusation.

@JJPeterson ...no I didn't. I criticized behaviour. Can you really not tell the difference?

Why did you get on here to scold people about Pat Robertson of all people? You’re assuming your worldview on the death of a charlatan who spent decades being unAmerican and unchristian and obscenely enriched himself in the name of White Jesus should be shared by all. Isn’t that condescending and arrogant of you?

@JJPeterson If you want to let a man like Pat Robertson eat away at your humanity, go for it. I can't stop you.

But I'd rather maintain the principle that all human life is sacred and equal. If you want to agree with Pat on this one that it's not, then that's on your soul.
