Oh great, Grace Hopper -- the world's largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists -- is being held in Florida later this year. I can't imagine any way that might go badly...

@dan do they still charge speakers for attending, too?

we have never approved of GHC in this household tbh

@kf @dan like many things, to me, GHC is not a clear good vs evil thing; plus: women and non-binary critical mass; minus: really corporate.

Florida, though...

@va2lam @kf @dan It's *not* a clear good vs evil thing, agreed. A friend of mine was at the Houston GHC a while back, and said, "yes, they celebrate diversity--but just this one axis, in practice. It's about getting more bougie young white cis-women into tech and keeping them involved."

...and as an old transwoman from a poor background, that told me everything I needed to know. I've never been, and likely never will.

I hope they manage to stay safe in Orlando, though, for reals.

@geekruthie @va2lam @kf @dan As one of the many folks in Orlando who has a pride flag up, yeah, they should be fine here. We're not Tallahassee.
