One of the most important skills in modern life that most people don't talk about is the skill of choosing for whom you apportion your mental and emotional energy.

Is it sad that a relative of a random person you know on the internet just got cancer? Sure. Should you invest emotions into it? Absolutely not.

If you allow your emotions to be guided by anything you read on the internet, you'll be a mess (we all know the type).

But if you go too far the other way, you become callous and cruel to those outside your immediate circle.

Finding the balance is difficult, and we should talk about it more.
