(2/2) It amazes me that the EU got “trains” so right, when the U.S. of A. pretty much botched train travel here. While I have zero proof, it’s as if Big Oil and Big Autos leaned on the Feds to make Amtrak as horrible as possible so people will just drive their big SUVs and suck up a bunch of gas.

In the EU, you can jump on trains and go anywhere for crazy low fares. On some Regionale routes, there’s a new train every 30 minutes, so if you miss one or it goes FUBAR, just hop the next one.

@Av8rdan I think the biggest cause of that is simply population density. In America, we have to lay *a lot* more track between big cities, and that's really expensive.

I do wish we had better rail though.
