The SpaceX explosion is nothing but disturbing, there is no “success” in creating thousands of tons of pollution. We absolutely do not know if the atmosphere can handle these repeated explosions of tons of metals. SpaceX is not making life “multiplanetary,” instead they may be putting life on the fast-track to being planet-less

“Science is, at least in part, informed worship… if a god does not exist, then our curiosity and our intelligence are the essential tools for managing our survival in an extremely dangerous time.” -Carl Sagan

Happy Birthday Carl, thank you for all of your books that led me to science and astrophysics

The arguments regarding the war are just sad to me because no one seems to understand the root of the issue. To nations, presidents, and politicians, war is just a way to make profit. This is the military-industrial complex, which the US and the whole world are dependent on. Until we end the greedy, profit-focused global system, there will always be increasing amounts of war because it’s just a way to make money.

The problem if Starlink becomes owned & controlled by the US entirely is then the loss of the night sky and space pollution risks are just going to get swept under the rug as necessary casualties by the mission of the military edition.cnn.com/videos/politic

Reykjavík means “smokey bay” and we’re living up to the name right now bc the volcano has brought SO much smoke over the city that we’re expecting acid rain (!) The volcano definitely didn’t do that last year & the volcano seems way too small for this to happen! It makes me think of the re-entry dust from satellites, which maybe I should start calling “plasma smoke.” ruv.is/frettir/innlent/2023-07

Hey folks, a gentle reminder to offer some kindness right now as appropriate.

I know folks are getting their laughs in with #twitterdown and the migration here and elsewhere happening extremely quickly once more. Just remember...

A ton of people are watching the communities they built crumble. Job stability for many people, particularly sex workers, artists, and other creatives are in extreme jeopardy. Some people who need crowdfunding to live are currently terrified of what happens next.

There are valid reasons to hate #twitter but remember to not be mean to people sad about its demise. There is an appropriate way to balance our reactions to this news.
