Interesting to see policies begin to take shape across platforms -
Use of ChatGPT generated text for content on Stack Overflow is temporarily banned.
This is a temporary policy intended to slow down the influx of answers and other content created with ChatGPT. What the final policy will be regarding the use of this and other similar tools is something that will need to be discussed with Stack Overflow staff and, quite likely, here on Meta Stack Overflow.
Overall, because the average rate of getting correct answers from ChatGPT is too low, the posting of answers created by ChatGPT is substantially harmful to the site and to users who are asking and looking for correct answers.

Right?! I don't have a clue. There are ways to easily circumvent any AI detectors, so how do you really know something is AI or not? The progression of all of this is fascinating to watch... a bit terrifying because it's sooooo fast, but interesting nonetheless.
I assume the usual: accuse lots of people of being AI users, and in the process, remove some of the bad AI answers.
Either that or go next-level... use an AI to hunt AIs.

Folks, that decision from SO was more than a month ago. It does move fast, and we already know how it's panned out.
Still not much time. How has it panned out?
Last few times I have hit SO the answers have been suboptimal.

Already most of the answers on SO are mediocre or outright wrong or off-topic.
