Once Twitter started injecting tweets into timelines based on likes, Retweet became a redundant feature too. Liking a tweet had the same basic effect as RTing it.
Here in elephant land a decision was made to have these two things express a different intent, and with no algorithm that makes sense.
But I do think Mastodon can give the people who miss QT what they want without breaking Mastodon.
You could even have a "Quote Toot" button, it just does a reply and self-boosts it automatically.
What's up next for Graze for Mastodon in 2023?
• Remote replies, mentions, and direct messages, #QuoteToots (kinda)
• Toot this page, toot this image, and toot highlighted page snippets from websites
• Compatibility with non-english Mastodon instances & Localised interface (I'll need some help with translations!)
• A lot of other fun stuff....

So I still have no idea what I am doing over here, but am trying my best. Anyway if you want a medieval historian of sexuality and apocalypticism on here, now you have one, I guess? #Introduction
#BlueChristmas by #TheLumineers is haunting & lonely & sad & just so utterly *tragic* which is exactly how it's supposed to be. Different enough from the Elvis version to merit its own spot on #TheVeryMerryGENTmasPlaylist. Mournful, beautiful harmonizing

This isn't a #christmas movie but I love it and haven't watched in a long time. The theme of accepting others seems like a good seasonal message ❤️🎄
Chocolat (2000) Based on the #book by Joanne Harris
Time for a new #Introduction post.
Hi! I'm Kelly. I like #StarWars and #DoctorWho and most other usual sci fi universes. Weapons-grade nerd and pharmaceutical-grade goofball. I spent many years covering #Apple at TUAW and The Mac Observer. I host some podcasts and appear on others. Day job is IT. An originator of #pdxtst and a long suffering smart home enthusiast. When not applying profanity to technology I'm probably playing Pokémon Go, at karaoke, or doing something fun with yarn.
#holiday question: How long have humans been commenting on 🎄 #Christmas #Yule turning into a period of overindulging and forgetting about true meaning?
Take a guess...scroll down...
While you're thinking, I just heard a fascinating lecture by Dr. Ronald Hutton (sponsored by The Last Tuesday Society at https://www.thelasttuesdaysociety.org/) on the ancient origins of Christmas #history

That first gripe occurred in 384 CE by Saint Gregory Nazianzen 😜 The more things change...

News about arbitrary suspension of journalists on Twitter is worrying. EU’s Digital Services Act requires respect of media freedom and fundamental rights. This is reinforced under our #MediaFreedomAct. @elonmusk should be aware of that. There are red lines. And sanctions, soon.
A few recommendations for life on Mastodon:
1) Follow anyone you think looks potentially interesting; you can always unfollow later, and they may lead you to new people via boosted posts.
2) Boost posts you think are worthy, so others can discover new content.
3) Don't obsess on replicating your Twitter follows on Mastodon; let it be its own experience, and grow it organically. Obvs follow anyone you miss from Twitter, but this isn't a 1:1 replacement; have fun, follow your instincts.
Émilie du Châtelet, who hypothesized conservation of energy, established kinetic energy as distinct from momentum and proportional to (speed)², and combined work by Newton and Leibniz with her own original ideas in "Institutions de Physique," was born #OTD in 1706.
Du Châtelet is an important figure in the development of classical physics, but she is not nearly as well known as many of her male contemporaries.
