Dear academic journal editors and department editors: If your standard turnaround allowance for assigning referees to a journal is 3 days, and you assign it on a Friday morning, you're implicitly requiring your volunteer senior and associate editors to work over the weekend on it. Is that fair? Or, instead, should you program your manuscript management system to only count business days in your deadlines? I'll give you a hint: It's the latter one.

A Utah parent says the Bible contains porn and should be removed from school libraries. Here’s their full challenge. The parent writes that the book should be considered indecent under Utah’s new book banning law, after seeing the other titles that have been pulled.

Most people don't know that a cold war era bunker and nuclear missle complex sits just outside North Bay Ontario. Today instead of fighting the evil USSR the site is fighting to avoid decommissioning. Built 200m below ground in1960s it was meant to withstand a Soviet nuclear attack. The public cannot access the facility since it is attached to the NORAD air base but there is a museum that you can visit.

The "Paradox of Tolerance" completely disappears if you look at tolerance not like a moral standard but as a social contract.

If someone does not abide by the terms of a contract, then they aren't covered by it.

In other words, the intolerant are not abiding by the rules of the social contract of mutual tolerance. Since they have broken the terms of the contract, they are no longer covered BY the contract and their intolerance should NOT be tolerated.
