I have experienced that frustration.
Many corporations do so for various reasons, including tax benefits.
For about a century now, the United States has been one of the leading countries in commerce and free trade. The U.S. dollar is also currently the global reserve currency. No one ever expected the U.S. to embrace nationalism and fascism, threaten its allies, impose tariffs, or selectively ignore due process within its own justice system.
Many people wrongfully assume that this horrible state of affairs will be temporary. But for that to be true, we would need free and fair elections — and that is looking increasingly unlikely. And even if we do have them, we’ll need to vote progressively to undo all this madness, rather than moderately, which historically only maintains the status quo.
That said, the Democratic leadership in my country does not seem to understand the American people anymore — or they simply do not care. The worse Donald Trump gets, the stronger the need and urgency people feel for something dramatically different.
Trump won simply because people were fed up with the status quo. And there is no so-called “lesser evil” when one side is told they can have their hero or anti-hero, and the other side is told to “suck it up, buttercup!” We had record voter turnout, but those in power want to ignore who turns out, why people turn out, and why it matters.
If it is not progressive, it will be conservative — I guarantee it.
