The Los Angeles Times obtained an internal review of US Border Patrol’s use-of-force policies, which US Customs and Border Protection has refused to release publicly (members of Congress have seen a summary). While the Times did not offer the report in full, the paper did publish previously unseen snippets that portray a law enforcement agency operating under loose use-of-force standards and little accountability.

The review was completed in February 2013 by the Police Executive Research Forum, a nonprofit that develops best practices for law enforcement use-of-force policies. It examined sixty-seven use-of-force incidents by federal border agents near the US-Mexico border that resulted in nineteen deaths.

The report is especially scathing in its critique of agents who’ve stood in front of moving vehicles, recommending that they “get out of the way…as opposed to intentionally assuming a position in front of such vehicles.” The authors add:

"It should be recognized that a half-ounce (200-grain) bullet is unlikely to stop a 4,000-pound moving vehicle, and if the driver…is disabled by a bullet, the vehicle will become a totally unguided threat… Obviously, shooting at a moving vehicle can pose a risk to bystanders including other agents."

I know the Mayor and Governor would probably say that they HAD to put down the protests bc otherwise these poor hotels, stuck between a rock and a hard place, would have to suffer the direct economic consequences of their windows being vandilaized all the time and local property values dropping from constant protests.

And I'm just like.... THATs actually the Free Market at work.

They need to get the fuck out the way and let these companies face consequences.

Video from the ICE officer’s cell phone shows Renee Good’s last interaction with him. She smiles and says, “I am not mad at you”. Seconds later this same officer fires three bullets from his gun hitting Rene Good in the head at close range.

Good luck explaining that in court.

At an absolute minimum, ICE must be disbanded and every person carrying one of its badges must be fired and barred from ever working for the federal government again. There is nothing salvageable in it; we can only raze it and salt the earth.

@GreenFire I just saw the leaked footage from the killer that was sent to The Bulwork. Tim Miller there discusses the 47 second video just before she was shot dead. He breaks it down slowly and stops at a few frames to make his observtion clear. It is absolutely clear that this ICE agent murdered her and that she was not a threat in any way. I feel at present I shouldn't share the link to it, but I first saw it was posted on Reddit. It's the kind of thing that I bet will be scrubbed quickly off all sites. This is a video that doesn't show the killing, but you do hear and see everything just before it happened.
